James F. Baker Sr, age 86, of Venice, IL, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at his home, with his loving family by his side. Jim was born on January 15, 1930 in Hettick, IL, a son of the late Frank and Stella Baker.
Jim was a Korean War Veteran who proudly served in the United States Army. During the war Jim was wounded twice and he received two Purple Hearts. On September 29, 1951, Jim married Doris Riddle, the love of his life, and Doris passed away on June 17, 2005. He had retired from B&O Railroad as a car foreman after many years of dedicated service. Jim was a member of American Legion Post #365 in Collinsville, IL. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years, he was also an avid Cardinal Baseball fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Jim will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving children, James (Victoria) Baker Jr. of Collinsville, IL, Kenneth Baker of Cloverleaf, IL, Debra Finazzo of Collinsville, IL and Cheryl Huelsman of Venice, IL; dear sister, Maxine Lampkin of Granite City, IL; proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; extended family and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL. Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO, with military honors provided by the United States Army.
Memorial donations may be given to the American Heart Association and donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
