James (Jim) Basarich, age 71, of Collinsville, IL, formerly of East St. Louis, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Jim was born on June 24, 1943 in East St. Louis, IL, a son to the late John Basarich Sr. and Josephine (Antonovich) Basarich.
Jim graduated from East St. Louis High School in 1961 and received an academic scholarship to Washington University, St. Louis, where he graduated with a BSEE Degree in Engineering in 1965. Jim's life was cut to short. Jim touched many hearts during his long battle with cancer. Despite the obstacles he faced in the past year, Jim always had a smile on his face and the favorite line he often used was "put me in coach, I'm ready". Everyone enjoyed Jim's witty sense of humor and Jim rarely complained of pain.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Ann Basarich, whom he married on September 19, 1992 in Caseyville, IL; daughter, Nicole Basarich, (Bob Lane); son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kerry Basarich; proud grandfather to, Benjamin, Jack, and Ella Basarich; step-children, Jim and John Funke; brothers, John (Kay) Basarich and Alan (Penny) Basarich; sister-in-law, Cheryl (Ray) Keiser. In addition, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many, many, friends.
Memorial visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, IL.
In celebration of Jim's life, memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral chapel with Chaplain Randy Butler officiating.
The family requests that donations be made to the BJC Home Health Care Hospice, Alton, IL.
