Ivan Hubert Lusicic Jr., 89, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville.

He was born July 5, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Ivan Hubert and Anna (Deranja) Lusicic Sr.

He married Grace G. (Patrico) Lusicic on April 24, 1948 at St. Joseph Croatian Church in St. Louis and she survives.

He retired from Vickers Oil Company after 10 years of dedicated service as a truck driver. He had also worked as a machinist at Sunnen Machine Works in St. Louis and as a granite cutter with the family business, Lusicic Monument Company in St. Louis.

He was very proud of his Croatian heritage, loved music throughout his life and was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union. He was a second generation to be inducted into the Croatian Music Hall of Fame and was the instructor of the Croatian Junior Tamburitzans of St. Louis and the director of the Happy Strings Croatian Junior Tamburitzans of Granite City.

He had served as a volunteer on the Gardenville Fire Department in St. Louis and was active with the Boy Scout Troop #1046 out of the Long Lake Fire Department. He and his wife enjoyed attending Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in Granite City. He was a private pilot and flying instructor, a talented balloonist and always wanting to help children. Ivan traveled many times to Guatemala and New Orleans for many mission trips to help others. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife of 70 years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Sheila Lusicic of St. Charles, Missouri and Dan and Linda Lusicic of Granite City; five grandchildren, Dan “D.J.” Lusicic Jr., John Lusicic, Danielle Lusicic, Nino Lusicic and Nicole Pollard; four great grandchildren, Addison Lusicic, Stella Lusicic, Calyx Wise and Rosabella Moussette; a sister, Eleanor Eaves of Affton, Missouri; nephew, Daryl Eaves of Affton, Missouri; other extended family and many dear friends.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Croatian Catholic, 2112 South 12th Street in St. Louis on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Stjepan Pandzic as celebrant.

Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in St. Louis.

Memorials may be made to Croatian Junior Tamburitzans of St. Louis and may be accepted at the funeral home.
