Irene Ann Feeler, 87, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 4:49 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at her home.
She was born January 26, 1931 in Vienna, Missouri, a daughter of the late Joseph and Teresa (Zimmer) Bocklage.
She married Tilghman Alex “T.A.” Feeler on November 23, 1950 in Vienna and he passed away on November 20, 2016.
She had retired in 1986 from the Granite City Trust and Savings after 30 years of dedicated service as a bank teller.
She was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City where she belonged to the Women’s Club. She was also a member of the B.P.W. and enjoyed her years of volunteering at Gateway Regional Medical Hospital.
Irene was a caretaker her entire life. Being one of nine children, she always took care of her parents or siblings in sickness and in health. She was a loving mother and grandmother who’s favorite phrase was “can I get you anything?” She sang “You are my Sunshine” until her last days and she was definitely a ray a sunshine to every that knew her. Irene loved to sew for others, read till all hours of the night, traveled with family and friends and never hesitated if anyone needed help. She loved her grandchildren and valued every moment she shared with them. She will always be alive in our hearts and memories.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael “Tony” and Ellen Feeler of Sullivan, Illinois; a daughter, Sandra Feeler and David Jolly of Granite City; five grandchildren and their spouses, Robert and Melissa Feeler of Centennial, Colorado, Emily and John Barry of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jacob Hartwick and Erica Stewart of Florissant, Missouri, Alexandra and Phil Phelps of Granite City and Kaisi Hartwick of Orlando, Florida; four great grandchildren, Jaxon Feeler, Nora Barry, Madelyn Feeler and Johnny Barry; a sister, Agnes Stratman of Jefferson City, Missouri; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alvin and Betty Bocklage of Westphalia, Missouri and Charles and Helen Bocklage of Florissant, Missouri ; sister-in-law, Freeburg, Missouri; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Ready, Mary Stratman and Marcella Hodge and two brothers, Billy Bocklage and Ambrose Bocklage.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Father Zachary Edgar as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois and may be accepted at the funeral home.
