Howard Edward Johnson, 79, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away at 9:20 p.m.
on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon.
He was born May 27, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Howard Edward
and Louise (Mahaffey) Johnson.
He married Janice L. (Hinckley) Johnson on August 17, 1985
at Niedringhaus United Methodist Church in Granite City and she survives.
He retired in 1998 as an executive after many years of service with Emerson Electric and ESCO Technologies.
He had received a Bachelor Degree of Science in Electrical Engineering, Master Degree in
Business Administration and a Doctorate Degree in Business Administration.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ferguson, Missouri where he had
served as an Elder and also the First Presbyterian Church of Edwardsville. He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycle riding, tinkering in engine repair and electronics and was an avid reader. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jan, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law,
Laura and John Marsan of Dripping Springs, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Howard E. and Peggy Johnson of Creve Coeur, Missouri; daughter, Kathleen M. Johnson of Chicago; daughter, Ann E. Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, Katelynne Marsan, Ben Marsan, Grant Johnson, Aidan Johnson and Taylor Johnson; cousin, Robert and Elaine Willey of St. Louis, Missouri; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy K (Enabnit) Johnson.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services
will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend John C. Hembruch officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
In lieu of floral tributes, memorials may be made to the Washington University in St. Louis Annual Fund in his memory, Meridian Village Benevolent Fund or to a charity of one’s choice and may be accepted at the funeral home.
