Herman Dale "Wimp" Wilson, 81 of Granite City passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at his home. Herman was born on January 20, 1931 in Granite City. He was a long time custodian for the Granite City School District and a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City. He was a former member of the Granite City Elks Lodge #1063; term Vice President of the Service Employees Union #98; a member of the bowling team at St. John United Church of Christ where he also served as an usher. He was a sportsman and enjoyed playing softball and especially loved the St. Louis Cardinals. Herman will be remembered for the love of his family and the many special times shared together.
He is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Nancy (Murray) Wilson, whom he married on November 30, 1973 in Edwardsville; his children, Linda S. Wilson of Granite City, Sherrie A. Wilson of Granite City, John R. & (Carol) Neporadny Jr. of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, Jerry W. & (Debbie) Wilson of Dittmer, MO, Cindy A. Deachan & (Tony Swearingen) of St. Louis, MO, Laura J. & (Mark) Bourbon of Keys Port, IL, Janice S. & (Jeffrey) Weeks of Granite City; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Wilson of Eureka, MO; 8 grandchildren, Sarah E. Deachan, Brenda A. & (Jonathon) Wilbur, Elizabeth M. & (Matthew) Welch, Jerrod B. Wilson, Jessica L. Scarborough, Joshua J. Wilson, Jenna A. Wilson, Hannah M. Weeks; 3 great-grandchildren, Ashley N. Micklowski, Courtney G. Micklowski, Oliver D. Wilbur; sister, Roberta & (Harold) Coy; brothers, Lloyd P. & (Katie) Wilson, David L. & (Alta) Wilson, Jerry W. & (Carol) Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents; Dreyfus & Danie (McIntosh) Wilson; son, James Dale Wilson; brother, Leonard D. Wilson; sisters, Virginia Hirtz, Pearl Keck, Shirley Martin.
Friends may call on Monday, October 1, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. John United Church of Christ, 2901 Nameoki Road in Granite City. In celebration of Herman's life services will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at the church with Rev. Karla Frost officiating. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery on Nameoki Road in Granite City. Memorials are suggested to St. John United Church of Christ or Gateway Hospice. Irwin Chapel in Granite City is serving the family.
