Helen Ann DeRuntz, 87, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at the Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis County, Missouri at 2:04 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2017.

She was born November 10, 1929 in Granite City, a daughter of the late Vaso and Anna (Yackich) Zikovich.

She married Joseph John DeRuntz on June 13, 1959 in Granite City who passed away in 1984.

She graduated from St. Elizabeth Nursing School and then went on and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from St. Louis University School of Nursing in 1955. She retired as a nurse from Venice Lincoln Tech, she also worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City.

Helen was a dedicated and faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and worked many years with the funeral planning committee. She also served as a Dominion Associate of the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois since 2005. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Tri-cities Council #1098 Ladies Auxiliary.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.

She is survived by six children and their spouses, Rita DeRuntz of St. Louis, John and Paula DeRuntz of Colleyville, Texas, Joseph and Lynne DeRuntz of Columbus, Ohio, Julia and Philip Gordon of Oxford, North Carolina, Paula DeRuntz of St. Louis and Mary DeRuntz of Mansfield, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Jack DeRuntz, Ann DeRuntz, Will DeRuntz, Matthew DeRuntz, Mary Beth DeRuntz, Samuel Gordon and Claire Gordon; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Mike Zikovich and John Zikovich and three sisters, Dolly Syniski, Julia Zikovich and Mildred Zikovich.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Avenue in Granite City on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Jeff Holtman as celebrant.

Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.

Memorials may be made to Holy Family Church or School, Nazareth Living Center or support your local Right to Life and may be accepted at the funeral home.
