Harry E. Cook, 76, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 5:55 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
He was born December 21, 1941 in Granite City, a son of the late Harry A. and Irene M. (Wood) Cook.
He married Sandra J. (Luebbert) Cook on June 12, 1964 in Granite City and she survives.
He retired in 1995 from the Granite City School District #9 after 32 years of dedicated service as a teacher. His passion in life was his years of teaching and had also taught nine years at the Booth Hospital.
He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Granite City where he had served many years as an elder. He was also a former member of the Granite City Elks Lodge, had coached girls basketball at North and served several years as the Student Council advisor. He enjoyed his days of fishing and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife of 53 years, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Brent A. and Rebecca Cook of Granite City; a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Shane Medlin of Granite City; five grandchildren, Jordyn Cook, Zachary Medlin, Jacob Cook, Nicholas Medlin and Samuel Medlin; two cousins, Barry Jo Sims of Los Angeles, California and Mary Beth Phipps of The Villages, Florida; other extended family and many friends.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Visitation will continue at Hope Lutheran Church, 3715 Wabash Avenue in Granite City on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Alan Beuster officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Hope Lutheran Church and may be accepted at the funeral home.
