The Very Reverend Father Kiril K. Antonoff, 95, of Belleville, Illinois passed away at 6:34 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.
He was born May 19, 1917 in Istanbul, Turkey, the son of the late Boris and Marika (Sargole) Antonoff.
He married Malinka (Semergian) Antonoff on November 1, 1942 in Istanbul, Turkey and she preceded him in death on May 9, 1998.
He dedicated his life to serving others, serving 18 years at Holy Trinity Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church in Madison and 23 years at Holy Ghost Eastern Orthodox Church in Youngstown, Ohio and returned to Granite City in 1987 where he was a dedicated and faithful member of Sts. Cyril and Methody Orthodox Church in Granite City. He had served as a member and past president of the Eastern Orthodox Clergy Association of Greater Youngstown and helped to establish the St. Elizabeth Hospital Chaplaincy in Youngstown. Father also served veterans and their families at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri as a volunteer chaplain for many years. He loved and cherished his grandchildren and traveling and always known to have his cigar in hand.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Gary Wangler of Belleville; four grandchildren, Christa Wangler and fiancé, Dan Rosson of Ft. Myers, Florida, Adam Wangler of Belleville, Micaela Wangler of Collinsville and Damian Wangler of Belleville; a sister-in-law, Rose Maloian of Ismir, Turkey; a niece, Kalyopi and husband, Tony Tito of Ismir, Turkey; other extended family and friends.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Sts. Cyril and Methody Orthodox Church in Granite City on Monday, March 25, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a funeral service of a priest at 7:00 p.m.
A Divine Liturgy will be held at the church on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with His Grace Bishop Alexander Golytzin and numerous other Greater St. Louis Orthodox clergy officiating.
Burial will be at Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Cemetery in Glen Carbon.
Memorials may be made to Sts. Cyril and Methody Orthodox Church.
