Emory Allen Wilson of Glen Carbon, born June 10, 1932, in Columbus, Ga., to William Oliver and Helen Hines Carter Wilson, died Monday, April 4, 2011, at his home after a five-month illness.
Mr. Wilson was a U.S. Navy war veteran of the Korean conflict, a retired truck driver and a self-employed small businessman. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Granite City, where he served as chairman of the deacons. He most recently attended Calvary Baptist Church in Edwardsville. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Oliver William (and wife Eva) Wilson of LaGrange, Ga. and James Carter Wilson of Geneva, Ga.; a sister, Ella Mae (and husband Willie) Yeager of Columbus, Ga.; a son, Emory Allen Wilson Jr.; and a grandson, Robert Allen Wilson Jr. of Alamogordo, N.M.
Survivors include his wife Rosemary Mann Wilson of Glen Carbon; two sons, Robert A. Wilson (and wife Linda) of Alamogordo, N.M. and William Eric Wilson (and wife Cheryl) of Granite City; two daughters, Carolyn Wilson of Edwardsville and Maryemily Slate (and husband Bob) of Skaneateles, N.Y.; a brother, Thomas Franklin Wilson (and wife Joyce) of Walkertown, N.C.; two sisters, Eleanor Marie (and husband Leo) Steadman of Clio, Mich., and Irene Olive (and husband Lee) Lilly of Manchester, Ga.; 14 grandchildren, Erin Niebur, Ryan Niebur, Lauren Inchingolo, Stephen Inchingolo, Nathan Slate (and wife Francine), Chris Slate (and wife Meaghen), Rebecca Slate, Austin Wilson, Gerica Wilson, Leah Wilson, Tess Wilson, Heather Whipple, Malarie Thompson and Samantha Thompson; and two great-grandchildren, Amyiah King and Nathanial Marcotte.
