Obituary

Emmett "Joe" Williams, 72, of Collinsville and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 8:21 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

He was born October 8, 1943 in Granite City, a son of the late John Harold and Jeanette "Jean" (Courtway) Williams.

He married Barbara Diane (Sedabres) Williams on March 9, 1988 in St. Louis and she survives.

He had worked at American Steel for 25 years and retired from Granite City Steel after 22 years of dedicated service as a millwright. He had served the Granite City community as a former Fire and Police Commissioner and a Precinct Committeeman. He was a former Cub Scout Master and a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City. He enjoyed working bingo and cherished his grandchildren. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law and one daughter and son-in-law, John and Gay Williams of Colorado Springs, Colorado, David and Debbie Williams of Granite City, Molly and Garrett Mullen of Uxbridge, Massachusetts and Edward and Amy Morton of Granite City; seven grandchildren, Joshua and Kathy Williams, Jeremiah Williams, Zechariah Williams, Benjamin Williams, Connor Mullen, MaKenna Mullen and Aiden Morton; one great grandchild, Caleb Williams; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Bonnie Williams of Dayton, Nevada; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2016 with Father Chris Comerford officiating.

Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.

Memorials may be made to the Granite City Park District and may be accepted at the funeral home.
