Elsie P. French, 84, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away at 10:50 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.
She was born February 17, 1934 in Greenfield, Tennessee, a daughter of the late James Allen and Lessie May (Walker) Vance.
She married John Russell French on September 1, 1952 in Corinth, Mississippi and he passed away on April 1, 2018.
She had worked at America Family Insurance in Troy, Illinois from 1986 until her retirement in 1993.
She was a “Queen” with the Red Hat Ladies and a faithful member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John Russell and Janet French Jr. of St. Charles, Missouri and Michael Anthony and Cathy French of House Springs, Missouri; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Tim Cook of Troy, Illinois and Teresa and Rod Stokes of Chandler, Arizona; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Vance of Chicago; a sister, Iva May Jones of Greenfield, Tennessee; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition of her beloved husband of 65 years and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Allen French; a grandson, Timothy Robert Cook; two brothers, James Allen Vance Jr. and Lloyd Vance and four sisters, Mary Helen Featherstone, Nancy Graves, Geneva Rodriguez and Virginia Carolyn Hitchpad.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Monday, September 10, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon with Reverend Mark Maynard officiating.
Burial will follow at Friedens Cemetery in Troy.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and may be accepted at the funeral home.
