Edith Louise Ross, age 91, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL. Edith was born on January 16, 1927 in Tuscumbia, MO, a daughter of the late Adam Barnhart and Nora (Burlingame) Barnhart.
On April 15, 1943, Edith married Henry Ward Ross, the love of her life, in St. Charles, MO. Henry passed away on December 9, 2006. Edith was a proud homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She attended Word of Life Tabernacle in Granite City, IL. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Edith loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Edith was preceded in death by her brother, Lawrence Barnhart; one sister, Opal Short; and by her son-in-law, Edwin Schlemer.
Edith is survived by her loving children, Shirley Schlemer of Edwardsville, IL; Phill (Ramona) Ross of Edwardsville, IL and Dennis (Joyce) Ross of Edwardsville, IL; dear sisters, Mildred Hayes of Arnold, MO and Betty Hayes of Granite City, IL; proud grandmother to Randy Fountain of Maryville, IL, Kim (T.J.) Hogue of Granite City, IL, Brad Ross of O’Fallon, MO, Jennifer (Charles) Richards of Edwardsville, IL, Henry (Tresa) Ross II of Edwardsville, IL, Dustin Ross of Vero Beach, FL and Vanessa (Dillon) Simon of Edwardsville, IL; proud great-grandmother to Hannah, Zachary, Luke, Payton and Alyssa; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of her life, funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Irwin Chapel, with Rev. Henry Crippen officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL.
Memorial donations may be given to Vitas Hospice or Alzheimer’s Association. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
