Eddie Stephens, age 68, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Fountain View Manor, Granite City, IL. Eddie was born on November 25, 1948 in Granite City, IL, a son of the late Ernie and Fern (Corbett) Stephens.
On January 8, 1972, Eddie married Cheryl Wood, the love of his life in Granite City, IL. Eddie had retired from General Motors in St. Louis, MO as an inspector in 1996 after many years of dedicated service. After his retirement, he worked part time at Cresent Heating & Cooling in Granite City, IL. Eddie was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan; he enjoyed going to the games with his family. In his younger years, Eddie coached his son’s baseball teams. He loved playing baseball and softball, and he played on many softball and baseball church leagues as well. He had also coached baseball and softball teams for many years for the Granite City Park District, earning several awards. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Eddie loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Stephens.
Eddie is survived by his devoted wife, Cheryl Stephens; loving children, Jeff (Nadine) Stephens, Mindy (Mike) Pool and Matt Stephens all of Granite City, IL; dear siblings, Dale (Joann) Stephens, Connie Adams, Ronald (Tracy) Stephens, Robert Stephens all of Granite City, IL and Richard (Dottie) Stephens of Paxton, IL; proud grandfather to Jacob Stephens, Makenna Roe and Natalie Pool; proud step-grandfather to Caitlin Leanos, Brendan Pool, Aaron Pool, Nick VanBuskirk and Noah VanBuskirk; many dear nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at City Temple, 4751 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2017 at City Temple, with Pastor Kevin Wilson Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL.
Memorial donations may be given to Alzheimer’s Association of St. Louis, MO and donations will be accepted at the church.
