Dr. Walter B. Heidke, 94, of Worden, Illinois passed away at 4:34 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at his home.

He was born May 15, 1924 in Boston, Massachusetts, a son of the late Arthur W. and Dorothea L. (Bertram) Heidke.

He married Mary Lorraine (Wrigley) Heidke on July 3, 1945 in Collinsville and she survives.

He had graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic and owned and operated W.B. Heidke Chiropractic in Granite City for 51 years until his retirement in 2001.

The United States Army Air Corp veteran proudly served his country during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and cherished taking care of his wife and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife of 73 years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur and Katleen Heidke of Worden and Stephen and Carol Heidke of Manchester, Missouri; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn Graham and Brian Rodehorst of Lawrence, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Melissa Nolan, Dean Heidke, Shaun Heidke, Tony Shelly, Patrick Weisskopf, Carla Valenti, Tyler Graham, Colin Graham, Ian Graham and Jenna Rodehorst; eight great grandchildren, Morgan Nolan, Taylor Nolan, Garret Shelly, Samantha Weisskopf, Tony Weisskopf, Ethan Valenti, Isabella Valenti and Lucas Valenti; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Joey Shelly; four brothers, Arthur, Theodore, Frank and Ralph Heidke and two sisters, Bertha Baxter and Dorothea Gallagher.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Cross Road in Glen Carbon on Monday, July 9, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m.

Burial with full military honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Memorials may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project and may be accepted at the funeral home.
