Obituary

Douglas Keith “Doug” Leisner, 55, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 3:33 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at his home.

He was born August 20, 1961 in Granite City, a son of the late Magnus “Weasel” and Shirley Ann (Heiser) Leisner.

He married Terry E. (Courtney) Leisner on July 19, 1984 in Madison and she survives.

He had worked at Anheuser Busch Brewery in St. Louis with 20 years of dedicated service and had worked as a forklift operator for several years with his last employment at Wainwright Industries in St. Louis.

He enjoyed sports and was an avid NASCAR fan. He loved barbecuing and cherished his grandchildren. He had a love for animals and loved his dogs, Boo Boo and Nelly. Doug will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife of 33 years, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Tanya and Phreze Smith of Granite City and Jessica Leisner of Wood River; two grandchildren, MacKenzie Smith and Ethan Douglas Smith; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Melody Leisner of Bunker Hill; a sister, Teressa Maus of Waterloo; father-in-law, William L. (Vila) Courtney of Florida; mother-in-law, Estelle (Bud) Boatman of Florida; several niece; nephews; other extended family and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Mike Besserman and a brother-in-law, Rick Maus.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Jesse Tedder officiating.

Burial will be at St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City.

Memorials may be made to the family and may be accepted at the funeral home.

Doug’s family invites all to wear casual clothing to represent his laid back lifestyle.
