Obituary

Douglas Cunningham Winfield, 67, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 5:51 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born April 11, 1947 in St. Louis, a son of Sylvia K. (Hood) Winfield of Granite City and the late Millard O. Winfield.

He married Cheryl Ann (Caudron) Winfield on January 23, 1970 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City and she survives.

He retired as a Postmaster in 2006 from the United States Postal Service after over 30 years of dedicated service. He had also owned and operated Winfield Smokehouse and was known as the Head Pit master.

He was a member of the AMVETS Post 204 in Madison. He loved his days of playing golf and was a member of several golf leagues. He also loved barbequing and pheasant and quail hunting. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and many friends.

In addition to his beloved wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Winfield of Granite City; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Sarah Winfield of Warson Woods, Missouri, Greg and Amanda Winfield of Boynton Beach, Florida and Corey and Christina Winfield of Granite City; five grandchildren, Kori Ann, Isabella, Berkley, Cameron and Colton; five brothers and sisters and their spouses, Judy and Bob White of Maryville, Brian and Jeanette Winfield of Granite City, Mary and Brad Boone of Granite City, Nancy and David Hauptman of Glen Bernie, Maryland and Bruce Winfield of Granite City; many aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Max Winfield.

In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The family suggest memorials be made to the Thoracic Surgery Foundation for Research and Education and may be made at www.tsfre.org or accepted at the funeral home.
