Doris Ilene Robertson, 83, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 3:29 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, Illinois.
She was born May 4, 1935 in Granite City, a daughter of the late Arthur and Opal (Justice) Johnson.
During her early years, she had worked at Reese’s Drug Store in Granite City as a soda jerk, helped prepare free lunches for children working with Open Kitchen in Madison and also worked as a seamstress at the Army Depot during the war.
She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and took much pride in raising and tending to her family. She cherished her grandchildren, loved sewing, quilting, cooking, working with crafts, gardening and feeding the squirrels. She was a member of Word of Life Tabernacle and the Red Hat Ladies.
She is survived by seven children and their spouses, Jerry Sanders of Granite City, Tom Sanders of Granite City, Vickie and Billy Grady of Granite City, Cathy and Rev. Henry Crippen of Granite City, Patty Sanders and Greg Howell of St. Louis, Robert and Tami Sanders of Wentzville, Missouri and Tony and Shannen Robertson of Troy, Illinois; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Helen Manning; two brothers, Arthur and Eddie Johnson; a sister, Norma Jean Kaleta and her former husbands, Jack Robertson and Thomas O. Sanders.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Visitation will continue at Word of Life Tabernacle, 4870 Maryville Road in Granite City on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Henry Crippen officiating.
Graveside services will be held at the Mulberry Grove Cemetery in Mulberry Grove, Illinois on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
