Obituary

Deloris Louise Barker (nee Cavins), Entered her eternal rest in the early morning on Thursday, January 15, 2015 after battling cancer bravely for nearly 18 years. Beloved wife of Ralph E. Barker; Beloved mother of Eric (Loretta) L. Barker and Asagay (Paul) S. DeCarlo; Beloved grandmother of Anna and Aaron Barker and Jack and Max DeCarlo; Beloved sister of Donald (Frances) Cavins, Brenda (Bill) Diane Campbell, and Rick Cavins.

Deloris was born on August 15, 1937 to the late Onis and Minnie Cavins. She married Ralph Barker on August 17, 1961. She graduated from Olivet Nazarene University and SIU-E. Deloris taught junior high school music for 34 years at Central and then Grigsby Junior High School in the Granite City School District #9.

She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, surrendering her life to him at age 8. She participated in numerous mission trips and was passionate about serving others and spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. Her passion was music; serving as organist and choir director at the former Granite City First (Crossroads) Church of the Nazarene. Most recently as a member of Glenview Church of the Nazarene she continued to play organ, piano, and sing in the choir. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Glenview Church of the Nazarene, 400 Glen Carbon Road, Glen Carbon, IL.
In celebration of her life, funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church.

Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2015. Funeral procession will leave Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, IL at 9:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 7325 Marine Road, Edwardsville, IL 62025. (www.hospice.org).
