David W. Slay, age 65, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at his home, with his loving family by his side. David was born on September 23, 1953 in Granite City, IL, a son of the late John Slay and Helen (Brown) Slay.
On May 26, 1979, David married Deborah Woomer, the love of his life. After twenty-one years of dedicated service with the United States Air Force, David retired in 1993 as a jet engine mechanic attaining the rank of Technical sergeant. He enjoyed coaching his children’s baseball, basketball and softball games. David loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Slay and by a brother, Richard Slay.
He is survived by his devoted wife of thirty-nine years, Deborah Slay of Granite City, IL; loving children, TJ (Sheila) Slay of Bethel, OH, Trisha Marshall of Granite City, IL, Nina Dudley of St. Roberts, MO, Jonathan Slay of Granite City, IL; dear siblings, Deborah (Warren) Koehler and John Slay; proud grandfather to fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL, with Pastor Mark Powell officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the United States Air Force at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO, following the funeral service at 12:30 p.m.
Memorial donations may be given to Unity Hospice. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
