Christina Sandor Johnisee, 65, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 1:10 p.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018, at the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born June 10, 1952, in Granite City, a daughter of the late William Michael and Caroline Anne (Pilon) Sandor.
She married Edward C. “Eddie” Johnisee on July 6, 1979 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Venice.
She retired on May 27, 2009, from the Madison Community Unit School District 12 after 34 years of dedicated and loving years as an elementary teacher.
She enjoyed volunteering as a tutor with Calvary Life Church in Granite City and caring for other's throughout her life. She was an avid Coca-Cola fan, loved traveling, enjoying the beach and taking in the sunshine in her years of trips to Panama City Beach and around the world. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Madison and St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City. Spending time with her grandchildren was the biggest joy in her life. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband of 43 years, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Adam Sandor Johnisee (Megan) of Maryville; a daughter, Elizabeth Anne “Lucy” Johnisee of Granite City; two grandsons, William Edward and Michael Anthony Johnisee; a sister, Lisa Marie Sandor (Byron Harrington) of Florissant, Missouri; mother-in-law, Josephine Johnisee of Granite City; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Connie and Morris Chapman of Granite City; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rosemary Celeste and
George Molnar and Carol Ann Davies and father-in-law, Eddie E. Johnisee.
In celebration of her life, a memorial gathering will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Sunday, January 21, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Madison on Monday, January 22, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. with Father Jeff Holtman as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
