Chester Harold Andersen Jr. "Turtle" 76, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 8:45 p.m. at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
He was born February 21, 1937 in St. Louis, a son of the late Chester Harold Anderson Sr. and Leona (Streigle) Williams.
He married Marilyn "Kay" (Vickers) Lyons Andersen on August 11, 1973 in Steelville, Illinois and she survives.
He retired in 1999 from Granite City Steel after nearly 45 years of dedicated service as a steelworker. He was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church in Granite City and enjoyed his days of fishing and bowling. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Christopher and Rhonda Andersen of Granite City and Clifford "Larry" Andersen of Granite City; stepson, Wayne Lyons of Rockwood, Illinois; five grandchildren, Crystal Deichmann, Ashley Goetter, Whitney Andersen, Jessica Luessenheide and Misty Andersen; six great grandchildren, Dalton, Kerstyn, Cheyenne, Briona, Tristian and Payton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Hogue of Greenville, Illinois and Shirley and Rich Jasudowics of Edwardsville; three stepbrothers and stepsisters-in-law, Owen and Marlene Ross of North Carolina, Bill and Rita Ross of Granite City and Larry and MiSuk Ross of Glen Carbon; one stepsister and stepbrother-in-law, Nancy and John Goodrich of Edwardsville; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Leora Andersen; stepfather, Rouse Williams; stepdaughter, Tina Valentine and a stepsister, Peggy Hoffman.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Jesse Tedder officiating. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or to Calvary Baptist Church and may be accepted at the funeral home.
