A smile that shined for all the world to see has been darkened much to soon. The passing of Cheryl Riggs on April 30, 2018 brings an end to a life filled with love, compassion and true friendship.
She was born in Granite City, Illinois to Gerald and Beulah (Ruth) Voorhees on November 27, 1960. She Attended North High School and then went on to SUI Edwardsville to obtain her Master's Degree in Sociology along with other several degrees. She was an SUIE Alumni Member, always staying in contact with some of her favorite professors, even as the years passed. Cheryl had a strong work-ethic and worked very hard all her life for the things that she wanted for her children and family; a wonderfully generous and loving person. She wasn't afraid of any challenges placed before her and embraced them head-on with commitment, determination and dedication. For a time she was an Antique Dealer, which gave her great joy in always learning and studying the historical items that she came across. Cheryl's interests were diverse, and she was also involved with the virtual gaming world, which included a deep, almost patriotic love Champion Horses in Second Life, where she lastly worked. She also became an online DJ where she met with people all over the world and became close friends with so many of them.
Throughout her life, Cheryl maintained a strong and loving demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many. She touched and affected so many by her constant nurturing love and friendship, and her willingness to help any and all ways she could. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter and joking, and loving care, will never be forgotten.
Cheryl was a devout St. Louis Cardinals fan, an avid and well learned music lover, a loving mother and grandmother, and is survived by a son Dan Riggs and wife Angela Kingsley Riggs, daughter Taylor Riggs, grandson Dylan Riggs, husband Edwin Riggs, brother, Raymond and his wife Shirley Voorhees, nieces, nephews, cousins and enough friends to fill Bush Stadium.
Should friends desire, Memorial contributions may be made to the Family.
In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City.
