Charles Norman Stavely, 86 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.
Charles was born on March 3, 1931 in Stewart County, Tennessee; the son of the late Thomas Ray and Opal Orlean (Cole) Stavely. Charles was a logistician for the United States Government and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of Solid Rock Free Methodist Church and very active with Gideon’s. Charles was a certified mechanic and enjoyed his days of tinkering with cars. Most of all Charles loved to spend time with his family and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.
Charles is survived by and will be missed by his son; Norman Stavely of Granite City, Illinois; his daughter, Beverly JoAnn (Richard) Thomas of Hodges, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Nicholas Thomas, Kyle Thomas, Rachel Johnson; 6 great-grandchildren; his brother, Dennis Stavely; his sister, Betty Walls.
In addition to his parents Charles was preceded in death by his wife; Margie Dell (Wallace) Stavely, whom he married on October 13, 1953; his brothers, Larry Stavely, Marvin Stavely, Marlin Stavely.
In celebration of Charles’s life, friends may call on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Javier Quintana officiating at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials are suggested to the Gideon’s.
