M. Charlene Cox, age 90, of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL. Charlene was born on July 6, 1927 in Baldwin, MS, a daughter of the late Charles E. Strange and Mary B. (White) Strange.
On June 6, 1948, Charlene Strange married Milton D. Cox, the love of her life, in Wheeler, MS. Milton passed away on March 20, 2015. Charlene was a proud homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Maryville, IL. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Charlene loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Charlene was preceded in death by one sister, Bobbie Howard.
Charlene is survived by her loving children, Melanie (Randy) Smith of Collinsville, IL, Lisa (Thomas) Holloway of Edwardsville, IL and Marsha (George) Pike of Granite City, IL; sister, Ruth Ann Wright of Muscle Shoals, AL; proud grandmother to Samuel (Mia) Holloway, Nathaniel Holloway, Rachel (Bo) Ficker and Daniel (Emily) Pike; proud great-grandmother to Luke Ficker and Delaney Pike; extended family and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, IL.
In celebration of her life, funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral chapel, with Pastor Tom Hufty officiating. A private interment will be held at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL.
Memorial donations may be given to Vitas Hospice or Hospice of Southern Illinois and donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
