Catherine Anna Wiese, 85 of Granite City passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at Granite Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Catherine was born on March 10, 1927 in St. Louis, MO. She was a candy maker for Stix, Baer & Fuller for many years. She also worked at the International Hat Company, Singer Sewing Machine and Miss Hullings. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church; she was very proud of being a volunteer at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City for many years and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for the love of her family and the many special times shared together.
She is survived by and will be missed by her daughter; Karen & (Stan) Myers of Granite City; she will be remembered as "Baka" to her grandchildren she loved dearly; Sara Catherine Myers, Kelsey Christina & (Kyle) Phelan; great-granddaughter, Sawyer Rae Phelan; cousin, Gilbert Axtmann; several nieces & nephews including Sandra Faneuff and Christina Cantrell; sister-in-law, Hulda "Dolly" Wiese, She was preceded in death by her husband; Albert Wiese whom she married on October 8, 1949 and preceded her in death on June 23, 1992; her parents, William & Anna (Hasselberger) Phaneuff.
In celebration of her life a memorial mass will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Ave. in Granite City with Fr.Jeff Holtman officiating. Memorials in honor of Catherine are suggested to Holy Family Catholic Church or Shriner's Hospital. Irwin Chapel of Granite City is serving the family.
