Carma (Prufrock) Froemling , age 95, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon Illinois.
She was born May 13, 1922 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Carrie (Finlay) Prufrock and William Prufrock.
She married Albert H. Froemling on November 28, 1944 at Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis, enjoying over 53 years together before Albert’s death on November 6, 1998.
She had a life-long love of dance. During her teen years, she taught dance with her dear Aunt Belle and was very proud that Alexandra Zaharias, founder of Alexandra Ballet, had been one of their students. During the years she and Al lived in Detroit, Michigan, Carma continued to teach dance and took special delight in her production, The Froemling Follies. During her eighties and nineties, when someone would remark about how well she got around, she immediately replied, “It’s because of my dancing.”
Carma and Al enjoyed traveling and liked to spend the coldest weeks in Florida and the warmest weeks at their beloved cabin in the North Woods. Carma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be remembered for the love and special times she shared with her dear family and wonderful friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Bristol; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Laura Froemling; grandchildren Heather (Bristol) Flesch, Christian Bristol, Zachary Bristol, Eric Froemling and Todd Froemling; great-grandchildren Rowan Flesch, Elliot Flesch, Orin “Ming Kai” Bristol and Pippin Froemling; a cousin, Jan Finlay; and a niece, Marilyn Haberkamp.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her aunts Hallie Finlay and Isabella (Finlay) Rainford; and her uncles William Finlay and Harry Finlay.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, Illinois on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM
Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, September 29, 2017 at the funeral home with Rev. William Yancey and Chaplain Brad Thomas officiating. Internment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Glen Carbon.
