Bertie Mae Dortch, 84 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.
Bertie was born on June 12, 1933 in Houston County, Tennessee; the daughter of the late A.P. and Clatie (Black) Mitchell. Bertie was a homemaker and mom who was a member of Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in Granite City. Bertie enjoyed her days of reading, working puzzles and bird watching. She loved to spend time with her family and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.
She is survived by and will be missed by her husband; Carl M. Dortch, whom she married on January 10, 1959; her children, Mike (Nancy) Curtis of Ellis Grove, Illinois, Debbie Curtis Bailey of Granite City, Illinois, Cindy Dortch of Granite City, Illinois; her grandchildren, Joseph C. (Mindy) Wallace Sr. of Edwardsville, Illinois, Melissa (Adam) Duncan of Hecker, Illinois; her great-grandchildren, Joseph C. Wallace Jr., Kayleigh Wallace, Dalton Wallace, Adalyn Duncan, Draedan Duncan; her brothers, Alfred (Phyllis) Mitchell, Larry (Wanda) Mitchell; her sisters, Brenda (Gary) Nance, Barbara (William) Curtis and numerous, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many other extended family members and friends.
Friends may call on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of Bertie’s life, Visitation will continue on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 2827 Mockingbird Lane in Granite City with Pastor Steven Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
