Barbara Diann Maples, age 68, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at her home. Barbara was born on April 9, 1949 in Black Oak, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Charles and Iduma (Short) Parris.
Barbara worked as a bartender at Doit’s Village Inn in Pontoon Beach, IL for many years. She had an outgoing an upbeat personality; Barbara didn’t believe in judging others, she never met a stranger, and she always made you feel special. Barbara enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and reading a good book. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Barbara loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family and friends and her dearly loved dog, Charlie. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by four sisters, Wilma DuBoise, Bessie Needham, Mildred Rains and Patricia Bryan and by three brothers, Edgar, Alford Sonny Parris and Billy Parris.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Bobby Maples of Granite City, IL; loving daughters, Angie Rippy of Edwardsville,IL, Candace (Kevin) Halpin of Maryland Heights, MO and Dawn (Steve) Missler of Olivette, MO; dear sisters, Carloyn Benton of Searcy, AR and Shirley Wise of Granite City, IL; proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and great friends.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of her life, funeral services will follow at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL.
Memorial donations may be given to Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure and donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
