Alma Louise York, 80, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 6:40 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.
She was born June 27, 1930 in Granite City, a daughter of Louis and Grace (Waggoner) Peach.
She married Roy "Lefty" York on July 3, 1952 in Granite City and he preceded her in death in 2001. She was a devoted member of City Temple Assembly of God Church in Granite City and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family.
She is survived by two sons, Larry "Joe" (Tammy) York of Troy and Gary "Jake" (Jane) York of Granite City; two daughters, Brenda "Susie" (Rev. Chuck) Kofahl of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Cindy Goldschmidt and Dave Goldschmidt of St. Charles, Missouri;
nine grandchildren, Nathan (Vanessa) Kofahl, Nicholas (Jacki) Kofahl, Courtney York, Casey York, Jayson (Lindsay) York, Justin (Amber) York, Jon Franko, Emily Goldschmidt and Matt Goldschmidt; eight great grandchildren, Noah, Amanda, Jacob and Ainsley York and Charlie, Ethan, Ella and Zane Kofahl; one sister, Ruby Jones of Granite City; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, William Leroy Owens and one sister, Nellie Ireland.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 with Reverends A.E. and Rich Cope officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials may be made to City Temple Senior Group and may be accepted at the funeral home.
