Aileen Ann (Smith) Worthen, 83, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 7:13 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri.
She was born June 17, 1930 in Granite City, a daughter of the late Andrew and Ann (Kurilla) Gasparovic.
She married Leonard Smith on November 23, 1950 in Granite City and he preceded her in death on November 16, 1990. She later married William J. Worthen on December 18, 1993 in Decatur and he preceded her in death on March 15, 2000.
She retired in 1994 from the Granite City School District after 28 years of dedicated service as a secretary. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City and was a member of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus. She enjoyed her days of gardening and had a special love of flowers. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and many friends.
She is survived by one son, Alan Smith of Granite City; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jean Ann Green of Glen Carbon and Mary Grace and David Jones of St. Charles, Missouri; six grandchildren, Tina Ilowiecki, Tom Green, Tony Smith, Andrew Smith, Allison Jones and Hannah Jones; four great grandchildren, Lidia, Julia, Sha Deen and Jamie; two brothers, Andrew Gasparovic III of Florida and Alan Gasparovic of Florida; six sisters, Audrey Gasparovic of California, Andrea Judd of Springfield, Annette Blackman of California, Angela Shilt of Warrensburg, Missouri, Anita Anton of St. Louis, Missouri and Alissa Bosslet of Edwardsville; one stepdaughter, Barbara Robinson of Maryland; three stepsons, Larry Worthen of Maryland, Michael Worthen of Maryland; Kevin Worthen of Texas; aunts, Doris "Jeannie" Buer of Chesterfield, Missouri and Marie Morgan of Florida; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Smith and Anthony Smith and a son-in-law, Thomas Green.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Visitation will continue at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Avenue in Granite City on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jeff Holtman as celebrant.
Burial will at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
